The Pinot Nero "Schweizer" (the name comes from the label artist Riccardo Schweizer) is the top Pinot from Franz Haas. It grows in plots with a particularly good microclimate, which over the years have produced the best grapes of this variety. The soils are different, the vineyards are at an altitude between 350 and 700 meters. The high plant density of the vines, between 8,000 and 12,500 vines per hectare, and the low-yield clones, some of which were even selected within the winery, are very beneficial to the quality. It is matured in barriques for 12 months, after which Franz Haas stores the wine in the bottle for almost a year before releasing it for sale. Year after year, one of the best red Burgundy wines in Italy is produced here.

This wine became famous when it won an international blind tasting by the magazine Vinum in the 1980s with top Pinot Noirs (including great Burgundies). The Pinot Nero Schweizer has a rather darker Pinot color. The scent is reminiscent of ripe dark berries and black cherries and pepper and leather can also be found. The tannins are soft, as befits a Pinot, and the wine has remarkable elegance and finesse. You can drink it young, but it also ages in the bottle for several years.
