Monthelie is an AOP on the Côte-de-Beaune in Burgundy, located between Volnay in the north and Auxey-Duresses in the south. The Clos Gauthey is located in the middle of the best plots of Monthelie, on the same hill where the Volnay wines grow.
The 2020 vintage was warm and characterized by high grape ripeness, but the wines also have an elegant freshness that you simply want in Burgundy. Without a doubt one of the best vintages of our time.
The 2020 Monthelie Clos Gauthey from Domaine Chanson has a bright ruby red color. In the scent you can detect a delicate floral note, plus ripe dark berries and black cherries, delicately supported by the spicy notes of the barriques. On the palate it is powerful and complex, the long finish is supported by the ripe tannins and in the best balance at a high level. The Wine Anorak gets an impressive 93/100 points for it.
Food recommendation: braised or fried red meat, game and Burgundian cheeses such as Epoisses, Citeaux and Langres.
