The upper part of the Mazis-Chambertin, called Mazis Haut, is considered the best terroir in Gevrey-Chambertin after the Chambertin and the Clos de Bèze. Here the Domaine Faiveley has its 1.55 hectare parcels, from which it produces a magnificent and sublime red Burgundy, which has received the highest international recognition.

The quality of the Mazis comes from the soil composition, which is similar to that of the Clos de Bèze, and the ideal slope. The Domine Faiveley matures its Mazis-Chambertin for 16 to 18 months in barriques, which are about 60% new wood, the remaining 40% consist of barrels that have been used before.

The 2021 vintage was very small in quantity due to the spring frost, but yielded very fine and classically structured Burgundies reminiscent of the better harvests of the 1980s and 1990s, as temperatures in 2021 did not reach the extreme highs of previous years. The nose of the Mazis-Chambertin 2021 reveals intense notes of noble barrique spiciness and ripe red and dark fruits. It has a fresh tannin structure, plenty of extract and depth and a long, dense finish in the best balance. The epitome of Burgundian elegance.
