The L'Annee Blanc IGP Cotes des Catalanes consists of typical grape varieties of southern France, just the high proportion Macabeu with 65% in the vineyard is unusual. Every year an attempt is made to bring the vintage characteristics into the bottle, the ideal harvest time of the different plots and varieties make this an exciting task. Once everything is combined in one 3000L fermentation tank, the natural yeasts are allowed to do their work. Some are then stored in barrels, others in tanks, before the batches are reunited and only lightly bottled or, as with the 2020 vintage, even unfiltered.
The 2021 vintage suffered from spring frosts, which reduced the harvest by around 20%. The further course of vegetation was a bit cooler than in previous years, but also very dry again. The much-needed rain did not fall until August, thus ensuring an excellent quality harvest. When it comes to Clos perdus, one speaks of fascinating wines that turned out a little fresher and more elegant than before.
