The Langhe Nebbiolo DOC from Pio Cesare comes from the winery's own vineyards in the noble Barolo communities La Morra and Serralunga, plus grapes from Barbaresco and Diano d'Alba. So it consists exclusively of declassified DOCG grapes, a kind of second wine, if you will.
After fermentation in steel tanks, the Pio Cesare Langhe Nebbiolo is allowed to sit in large wooden barrels for a long 24 months before being bottled. A small part is also stored in barriques. In terms of expansion, it also has a lot from its big brothers.
This wine can be stored for a long time, it has the necessary substance to mature in the bottle for several years and become more and more subtle. The elegant 2021 vintage also contributes to this with its almost perfect balance.
The wine has a typical Nebbiolo color, so it is not too dark. The aroma is intense and playful, with aromas of red and dark berries, spices and floral notes. On the palate, the Pio Cesare Nabbiolo is elegant and balanced, appearing pleasantly fresh in the long finish thanks to its ripe tannins. Very good and very authentic Piedmont.
Enjoy this characterful red wine best with antipasti, game, lamb and beef. It also goes very well with a plate of pasta with, for example, salsiccia or a mushroom dish.
