The red vines, such as the South Tyrolean original Lagrein variety, grow near St. Michael-Eppan in the low-lying vineyards south of Bozen, which give the red wine varieties that need ripening the necessary warmth. The soil consists of sandy moraine rubble, the orientation of the layers is ideal to the south and south-east.
The expansion of this Lagrein is very traditional, it is not without reason from the "classic series" of this winery. After fermentation in steel tanks, the Lagrein is stored in large traditional wooden barrels until it is ready for bottling.
The high maturity of the warm 2022 vintage brought us a juicy St. Michael-Eppan Lagrein that shines with ripe tannins and lots of extract. Its intense scent is reminiscent of dark berries, cherries and a delicate touch of violets, which makes the wine very attractive. The voluminous vintage also makes the otherwise rather robust Lagrein surprisingly soft on the palate, almost velvety in the long finale. An excellent "basic Lagrein" that scares the competition.
Lagrein is an excellent accompaniment to hearty dishes such as lamb, game or a holiday roast. Roasted vegetables, for example from the grill, also go very well, especially if they are served chilled in the cellar.
