Vendage Tardive refers to the late harvest of the grapes. In Alsace, these wines always have a certain residual sweetness due to the high must weight of the overripe and sometimes even noble-rotten berries. Since there was no Selection de Grains Nobles from Hugel in 2012, all noble rot Riesling berries were used for the Vendage Tardive.

This selection of the harvest comes from the oldest plots of one of the best Riesling Grand Cru locations in Alsace, Schoenenbourg. This exceptional terroir in Riquewihr has been almost exclusively dedicated to Riesling for centuries.

The slow expansion of Hugel's Riesling Vendage Tardive 2012 took place in traditional wooden barrels. After bottling, the wine was stored in the winery for a few more years before it was released for sale.

Unfortunately, Parker’s Wine Advocate did not taste the 2012 Riesling Vendage Tardive. 2013 received 96/100, 2011 94/100. This definitely shows the quality league in which this outstanding wine usually operates.
