The Pinot Noir for the Côtes de Nuits-Villages from Hoffmann-Jayer (Jayer-Gilles until 2016) grows in the municipality of Corgoloin, north of Ladoix-Serrigny. The vines in the En Fontenelle, Le Clos de Magny and La Montagne vineyards are on average 50 years old. The aging takes up to 24 months and takes place in 30% new barrels.
The Côte de Nuits Villages has even more substance than the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits from Domaine Hoffmann-Jayer and also a more noticeable wood tone. The power and depth from the old vines can be felt on the palate, and everything is perfectly balanced, which is very typical of the rather charming and juicy 2018 vintage. The winery itself believes that it will develop positively for up to 15 years after the harvest.
Vert deVin rates this wine 93-94/100 and praises the nose, which smells of cassis and small red berries, which also has floral notes. On the palate it is described as balanced, fruity and defined, the tannins as elegant and precise.
