For the Domaine Hoffmann-Jayer Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Pinot Noir grapes from the municipalities of Magny-lès-Villers and Villers-la-Faye are used. The sites have a dark calcareous clay soil and face south and southeast. The Pinot Noir feels right at home here.

The vines here have an average age of around 50 years. An important factor for quality. Of course, it is harvested by hand, 100% separated from the stems and then sorted again so that only the best berries make it into this delicious Burgundy. As is usual with Hoffmann-Jayer, aging takes a very long time, 18-20 months for the red Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, 2/3 of the harvest is stored in wooden barrels, 20% of which are new. In a normal year there are around 9,500 bottles of this wine. By the way, this is the former Domaine Jayer-Gilles.

The charming and voluminous 2018 vintage has a brilliant ruby red color. The scent is reminiscent of ripe dark berries, cherries, some vanilla and is playful and mineral. On the palate it has reached its best drinking phase, the tannins are well integrated, support the fruit and give the long finish a fine structure.

The perfect accompaniment to game dishes, duck and even hearty fish dishes.

The wine magazine Falstaff rates this fine red Burgundy with an incredible 93/100 and wrote in March 2022: "Cherry and plum in the scent, slightly peppery, accompanied by a very restrained use of wood. The palate structure appears pronounced linear, without emphasizing any motif, the tannins are fine-grained, drain well, the acidity is sustained despite the overall somewhat riper vintage type, the fruit, despite all its age-appropriate reservedness, still has clarity and precision. There is also no lack of mineral perceptions. Uncontrived!"< /p>
