Hoffmann-Jayers red Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune comes from plots in Magny-lès-Villers, En Foigery and Les Castaings. The Pinot Noir vines here have a high planting density of 10,000 vines per hectare, which makes the yield per vine low and drives the roots deep. In addition, the vines have a high average age of 60 years.
Two thirds of the harvest is aged in barrels, 20% of which are new, the remaining third comes from sandstone tanks. The entire expansion process takes up to 20 months.
This results in a red burgundy that can do much more than the name of the AOP suggests. The wine has a wonderful depth and is playful, intense and balanced. Aromatically, the Hoffmann-Jayer Hautes-Côtes-de-Beaune is reminiscent of fresh red berries with a subtle chalky-mineral note. On the palate it has a lot of tension, is straightforward, powerful and also charming. It's a lot of fun early on and will also mature very well. 10+ years shouldn't be a problem.
Game dishes, beef bourguignon, semi-hard cheese and poultry are perfect partners for this very fine and affordable Burgundy.
