Chateau Haut-Bailly is certainly one of the most spectacular newcomers among the Bordeaux châteaux. For decades it was okay in terms of quality, but never really compelling. That has fundamentally changed. Haut-Bailly, with the simple black and white label, is now one of the absolute top wineries in Pessac-Léognan (Graves).
The wines are breathtakingly good. The Haut-Bailly II has been the second wine of this chateau since the 2018 vintage. It used to be called La Parde and was, by the way, one of the first second wines in Bordeaux.
The Decanter magazine awards it 92/100 from two independent tasters, with the extract and delicacy being particularly praised. Haut-Bailly has always been famous for the latter. Georgina Hindle writes: “…excellent balance and harmony. Lots to like here.” James Suckling is even at 95-96/100. Quote: “Excellent second wine”. Another medium that we have probably never quoted before - Le Figaro - gives it 92-94/100 and writes: "...an exit as long as a summer evening". Wow!
