The Griotte-Chambertin is the smallest Grand Cru in Gevrey at just 2.73 hectares (6.75 acres). It is located between the Charmes and the Chapelle-Chambertin. The border between the Chambertin and the Clos-de-Bèze runs above the Griotte. Griotte means sour cherry in French, which is why it is often said that the wine tastes like this fruit. This can of course happen, but the origin of the name is different. It comes from Criotte or Crai, which means something like chalk and is an indication of the soil structure of this Grand Cru. Hence the outstanding elegance of this cru, which elevates it above its Charmes neighbors. Griotte is one of the most seductive Grand Crus in all of Bourgogne.

As always with his absolute top wines, Benjamin Leroux fills his Griotte-Chambertin only in 1.5L magnum bottles. The few examples of this top wine are in demand and very sought after by collectors and connoisseurs worldwide. In 2020 there was only one 500 liter barrel of this wine.
