In the Krispel Winery Pinot Gris enjoys the highest reputation, which is why it is sold at a higher price than the other grape varieties in the local wine series. It grows in Straden in the volcanic region of Styria and is stored in wooden barrels made of French oak that have sizes between 1,500 and 2,000 liters, which gives the wine a touch of wood without dominating it in the slightest.
The Pinot Gris Straden Vulkanland Steiermark DAC shows aromas such as ripe pears and apples, honeydew melon and cloves. On the palate it is voluminous and leaves a creamy mouthfeel in the long finish, which is also always characterized by brilliant aromatic clarity. Very skillful winemaking!
The Austrian wine magazine Falstaff awards 92/100 for the Straden Pinot Gris Krispel 2022. Quote: "Bright golden yellow, brass reflections. Delicate herbal spice, ripe pear fruit, tobacco appeal. Juicy, elegant, white apple, freshly structured, subtle sweetness on the finish, Harmonious, versatile, typical representative of the variety."
This wine goes effortlessly with intense dishes; festive roast poultry, white meat, mushroom risotto or even Thai curry dishes go perfectly.
