The red Churchill's Grafite Douro grows in the sub-regions of Cima Corgo, the center of the growing region, and Douro Superior, which is somewhat cooler and where grapes for high-quality table wines in particular grow. Only traditional grape varieties are used, here they are Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, the latter is much better known under the name Tempranillo.
Churchill only uses grapes from his own family estate for Grafite, nothing is purchased. The grapes for Churchill Grafite were carefully hand-picked and completely destemmed (separated from the stems) before being fermented. 30% of the harvest was aged for twelve months in new and used Barriques.
The Churchill's Grafite 2020 has a dark color with an almost black core and a purple shimmer on the edge. Its scent is reminiscent of ripe plums and black cherries, some vanilla and cocoa. On the palate, the fullness and ripe fruit make the wine juicy and round. The velvety tannins give the wine support and a certain grip in the background. The long finish is fruity, where the aromas of the fragrance are reflected and well balanced.
