The Hugel winery is enthusiastic about the 2011 vintage, which is described as a "great classic vintage with good storage potential", because the acid structure is right in addition to the very high level of maturity.

The Gewürztraminer Grossi Laüe comes from the Grand Cru Sporen in Riquewihr, where Hugel is the largest landowner. The winemaking is very gentle, the wine is moved in the cellar only by gravity, no pumps are used. After fermentation, the Gewürztraminer Grossi Laüe is stored in large traditional wooden barrels before being bottled. Then it takes a few more years before the winery releases it for sale, you only do that when it has reached its best drinking phase.

The Gewürtraminer Grossi Laüe from Hugel is a typical representative of its fragrant grape variety and Alsace, aromatically reminiscent of roses, jasmine, lilies; pineapple, and bergamot. On the palate it is opulent and intense, not a happy thirst quencher, but a wine that wants to be savored in small sips. A very high quality classic!

Stephan Reinhardt rates the 2011 Grossi Laüe Gewurztraminer for Parker's Wine Advocate with 93/100 and writes: "... this is a lush and concentrated, pretty sweet cru with a long and spicy, fresh and tension-filled, mineral finish."
