The Gewürztraminer Estate from the Traditional Hugel winery (wine-growing in Alsace since 1639!) comes from plots in Cru sites in Riquewihr, which are planted with vines that have a have a remarkably high average age of over 40 years.

Hugel is one of the biggest, if not the biggest name in Alsace. Pure tradition, conservative in the best sense. Most of the grapes come from organically grown plots, but not all, so the wine is not certified organic, but this will follow for future vintages.

The very warm 2019 vintage brought high levels of maturity without any Bortytis, a vintage for high-quality dry and semi-dry wines that achieved incredible alcohol and extract values.

The Gewürztraminer Estate 2019 by Hugel almost kills you with its room-filling fragrance. It's so intense you almost gasp for air. Due to its delicate residual sweetness, it balances the high alcohol level perfectly. There is also a delicate bitterness, which gives the structure to this low-acid wine. The word bitterness shouldn't scare anyone, it goes perfectly with this Gewürztraminer beauty.

Serve this special wine best with Munster cheese, foie gras, or as a fragrant wine elixir, just when you feel like it.

Parker's Wine Advocate rates this wine 91/100 and writes: "...Rich, sweet and lush but with fine kumquat bitters, tannins and fine acidity."
