Bodegas Marques de Riscal has had a spectacular hotel built on its site by star architect Frank Gehry. This ultra-premium wine from the winery is named Frank Gehry Selection in his honor. It is prepared from the best grapes from Marques de Riscal; the grapes, which are predominantly selected from the Tempranillo vine, come from vines that are over 80 years old and only produce small quantities of excellent berries. These are all individually checked again manually at the sorting table to determine their suitability for this top Rioja.
At Marques de Riscal they are so convinced of this Rioja selection that they attribute to him an almost eternal life and regard him as an icon of the 21st century in Rioja. This exclusive cuvée is only available in the very best years, most recently this was the case in 2012 and now in 2019.
The Marques de Riscal Frank Gehry Selection 2019 is a cherry red wine with an almost opaque color. It has an intense and complex nose that is reminiscent of ripe dark berries, fine vanilla from the French barriques and delicate balsamic notes. On the palate it is incredibly full and structured, with a lot of pressure from the extract and yet also with a certain freshness thanks to the beautifully polished tannins, which finely marble the extremely long finish. A really big one!
