Finca de Altura is the highest vineyard of Dominio Basconcillos. The Tempranillo vines, also called Tinto Fino here, grow at 940 to 960 meters above sea level. The altitude leads to high temperature fluctuations between day and night and a long ripening period, often into October. Both contribute to the finesse and aroma development of the berries.
The Finca de Altura has a more red berry character, and Dominio Basconcillos is aiming for soft tannins and a round palate feeling with this wine. Finca de Altura is fermented only with naturally occurring yeasts. The barrel seasoning comes from French and American oak barrels, a blend that works very well for Tempranillo and is used in many growing regions of Spain.
The 2021 Finca de Altura has a bright red color with a purple edge. Its scent is reminiscent of red berry fruits, cassis and blackberries, plus a subtle spice from the wooden barrel. On the palate, the silky feeling impresses with its round tannins and the exactly right balance that characterize the long finish. A Ribera del Duero full of excitement and a lot of class.
