The Fides has been the best Barbera d'Alba at Pio Cesare since it came out. Starting with the 2017 vintage, it is exclusively from the single vineyard Vigna Mosconi in the Barolo municipality of Monforte and is also classified as Barbera d'Alba Superiore. It is made from Pio Cesare's oldest Barbera vines, which produce very small yields but top quality berries.

The name Fides (=faith) comes from the family's belief in the Barbera grape variety, which has always been believed to produce great wines. The Barbera Fides Vigna Mosconi is fermented in steel tanks and left on the skins for 30 days to extract color and tannins. The wine is then stored mainly in large traditional wooden vats, a small part also in French barriques.

The 2019 vintage was characterized by heat and little rainfall, which resulted in small yields, but also in enormously concentrated wines that have powerful tannins and a lot of extract, but have not lost their freshness. An excellent year.

Wine critic Antonio Galloni from Vinous.com rates the 2019 Fides Barbera from Pio Cesare with 93/100 and writes: "The 2019 Barbera d'Alba Fides Vigna Mosconi is a fabulous wine that captures all the Intensity of this Monforte site. A rush of black cherry, plum, mocha, incense, licorice and bittersweet chocolate are all dialed up. This potent, structured Barbera packs quite the punch. Best of all, it is so distinctive and delicious."< /p>
