The El Jardin de la Emperatriz is, so to speak, the second wine of Finca Emperatriz. The red is made mainly from Tempranillo, plus some Garnacha and Graciano, grown in this 570-metre-high terroir in Rioja Alta, which is covered in an impressive layer of large white pebbles. An ideal soil for growing grapes as it provides very good drainage and retains heat.
The El Jardin 2019 is a powerful and structured Rioja. It has the typical bite of the low-yield 2019 vintage, which only produced small quantities but top quality. It has a bright ruby red color with violet reflections. The bouquet is characterized by dark berries, cherries, a hint of vanilla and fresh tobacco. The ripe tannins take hold on the palate, the wine has a remarkable extract and appears very elegant and fresh, but also shows a lot of depth and complexity.
We recommend carafing it or leaving it in the cellar for another 1-2 years. This El Jardin de la Emperatriz is likely to be the most intense vintage yet that will have a long life.
