Even the Pinot Noir basic quality of the Deutzerhof shows where to go, especially when you have such an excellent red wine vintage as 2020 in the glass. The independent character of this wine is shaped by its northern origin and the classic slate soils of the Ahr Valley. The result is an unmistakable red wine that defies comparison.
The grapes for this wine grow in the basin of the village of Mayschoß, where the Pinot Noir find the warm place they need for perfect ripeness. According to the philosophy of the Association of German Quality Wine Estates (VDP), it is the estate wine by Deutzerhof.
The traditional Ahr taste is supported by the use of large wooden barrels, which have been used here for centuries. Fruit, strength and mineral elegance characterize this wine. The fruit is relatively dark for a German Pinot Noir, and there is an attractive herbal spice that gives the wine a lot of play. Its delicacy due to the elegant tannins nestles up with many dishes, it supports the meal, but never dominates.
This is Ahr Pinot Noir full of character at a very reasonable price.
