The Pinot Noir Eck GROSSES GEWÄCHS is number one in the Deutzerhof's internal hierarchy. It grows in the western part of the small cultivation area. The Altenahrer Eck parcel of the Deutzerhof is planted with ungrafted vines from an old Pinot Noir clone called Kaastenholz, which produces deep and intense wines.
The Eck GG is matured in 228L Burgundy barrels from the Tonnellerie Rousseau. During the eighteen months of aging, the wine is freed from trub three times so that it no longer has to be filtered when it is bottled. The Eck Pinot Noir is characterized by an exciting minerality, it shows fine fruit and herbal notes, which become more apparent with longer bottle storage. A special wine with a unique character.
The 2020 vintage is particularly successful. The magazine Falstaff (Austria) rates the Eck GG 2020 with a full 95/100 points and writes: "Beguiling fragrance with marzipan, cherry, spruce needles and plenty of room for imagination. These impressions continue in the taste: precisely applied acidity and tannins. The epitome of a great Ahr wine, potential for many years.
