Benjamin Leroux's Clos de Vougeot grows in a plot called Petit Maupertuis, at the southern end of this famous Grand Cru. The vines are old, the youngest dating back to the 1970s, which gives the wine a lot of depth. Leroux's plot of just 0.15 hectares was enough for two barriques of this wine in 2021, one of the two was new. After eighteen months of aging in wood, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered. The fermentation took place only with natural yeasts, as is usual with Benjamin Leroux. A real rarity and an excellent quality at that.
Decanter magazine awarded a respectable 94/100 points to the 2021 Clos de Vougeot Petit Maupertuis, taster Charles Curtis, a Master of Wine, praises the juicy cherry and plum fruit with cedar and clove accents , and the rich substance on the palate, which makes the wine accessible despite its tannic structure. This classy wine has a long life ahead of it.
