2019 is the premiere vintage of Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from Brancaia, and what a wine! A delicate note of subtle oak combines with more classic, red berry Chianti aromas, plus a fine herbal spice and a hint of leather. The wine has an enormous amount of draft, depth, elegance, freshness and length. Classic and modern combine perfectly here. Certainly one of the very best 5% in the Chianti area.
Stylistically this is much more structured than the Brancaia wines from the 1980s to 2000s, the return to the classic is very beneficial to the recognition value as Chianti. This is how Chianti Classico should taste at the highest level. A masterpiece!
The 100% Sangiovese wine is matured in tonneaux (500L wooden barrels) for eighteen months and in cement tanks for a further three months before the Chianti Gran Selezione is bottled. Here it is allowed to rest for another twelve months before it is delivered from the winery. The winery predicts a storage potential of 25 years.
