Old and young get engaged in a cuvée (fiancée = engagement). 100-year-old Grenache Noir and young Syrah vines in the best locations provide the grapes for this enormous Châteauneuf-du-Pape edition of the Domaine de la Barroche from the powerful and high-class 2019 vintage.
The Grenache matures in concrete eggs, the Syrah in 600 liter wooden barrels. The result is a moving Châteauneuf-du-Pape that is complex, deep, intense and simply overwhelming in its concentration. Wow. 25+ years of aging potential.
There are also euphoric reviews: 96/100 Wine Spectator and 95/100 Falstaff! The latter write: "Strong ruby garnet, violet reflections, subtle ocher edge lightening. Fine nuances of fresh plums, heart cherries, delicate hints of nougat and precious wood. Juicy, complex, hints of blackberries, present, well-integrated tannins, fine spice, chocolaty finish, good aging potential."
