Château Pouget is a very small winery by Médoc standards. This 4th Grand Cru Classe from Margaux has just 10 hectares of vineyards. It has been owned by the Guillemet family since 1906, who have also owned Chateau Boyd-Cantenac, also in Margaux, since 1932. Both share the idea of being something like an undercover Bordeaux Grand Cru. Despite the fame of the classification, they hardly ever appear in the markets. There are also only a few reviews of the wines by the usual international journalists. That's actually a shame, because the quality is quite impressive, but it doesn't seem to hurt the sales either.
Château Pouget's sandy gravel soils are made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and some Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is very high at around 50 years. Pouget's wines have been certified organic since the 2017 vintage, which is still a rarity among the Cru Classé in Bordeaux.
