Château Pedesclaux looks back on one of the most checkered histories of all the Médoc Grand Cru Classé from 1855. Once classified as 5th Cru Classé in the commune of Pauillac, vines were even bought from Château Pontet-Canet in 1883 to meet demand. The winery was then sold several times until the absolute low point was reached in the 1950s, when wine production was even stopped. Even after that, you didn't really get going, for decades the wine wasn't mentioned and it wasn't worth its price.

In the 2000s, however, Pedesclaux got back on track, especially when the Swiss Jacky Lorenzetti bought the estate in 2009 and restored it to its former glory. He also bought other parcels in the vicinity of Lafite- and Mouton-Rothschild, which certainly do not detract from the quality of Pedesclaux. The high level of ambition is also underlined by the new oak casks of 60% per vintage.

Since 2019, all areas have been processed organically, and from the 2022 vintage the wines will be certified organic. Today, Pedesclaux is worth more than its fifth place in 1855. The wines are first class and still cost relatively little money for their outstanding quality.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider - gives the 2020 Pedesclaux a 93/100, praising the ripe tannins and anticipating a lifespan into 2050.

Georgina Hindle from DECANTER Magazine is at 94/100, the fine tanning grip is also praised here, as well as the juiciness and freshness at the same time.

Peter Moser from Falstaff magazine finds 93/100 appropriate and appreciates the mineral-salty aftertaste, the lively style and the potential for aging.

Don't miss out on this excellent Pauillac at this fair price.
