Chateau Larmande is one of the oldest wineries in Saint-Emilion, first mentioned in 1585. The Grand Cru Classé vineyard is located north of St. Emilion and covers 20 hectares in one piece, i.e. a large contiguous location, which is also planted with some very old vines.

The grape variety Merlot dominates here with 65%, plus 30% Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). Some of the Cabernet Franc vines are over 100 years old, making them some of the oldest vines in this AOC. The vineyard is traditionally worked with two horses.

Since the 2018 vintage, Larmande has made another leap in quality and today makes the best wines of all time on this estate. 90% of the expansion takes place in barriques, of which around 60% are new, 10% is stored in clay amphorae. This practice has been in place since 2018.

The 2019 Chateau Larmande is arguably superior to the 2018, delivering a premium structure and captivating precision not previously seen in this chateau. Already in the enchanting nose it indicates its fullness and complexity, shows a fine spice, ripe dark berries and vanilla. Very powerful, structured and very long on the palate. A premium Larmande.

Georgina Hindle writes in Decanter magazine about the Larmande 2019 with a wonderful bouquet of Black Forest gateau, cassis and milk chocolate. The wine is full of energy and has perfectly integrated tannins. Excellent 93/100 points for it.
