2020 is the third magnificent Bordeaux vintage in a row; there has never been such a fantastic trio of this quality. This vintage differs from its powerful predecessor primarily in its freshness and elegant structure. Stylistically, 2020 is a mix of the opulent 2018 and the catchy 19.
The Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2020, or “GPL” as its loyal fan base also calls it, is a magnificent wine. Probably one of the very best ever made here. It has an enchanting cassis nose and also smells of ripe dark berries, cherries, cedar wood and vanilla. The concentration is impressive on the palate, the salty minerality is salivating, strength, freshness and fruit are in perfect harmony. The wine also gets its bite from its high proportion of Cabernet vines, both together amounting to 80%. The GPL 2020 will develop into a modern classic.
