Château de la Dauphine is a long-established winery in the AOC Fronsac. The magnificent château was built in 1750 and shows how highly respected Fronsac wines were at that time, because such a château had to be affordable first.

Château de la Dauphine has long been part of the empire of Christain Moueix, who owned the famous Petrus, Château Trotanoy and Magdeleine wineries. The wines were solid to good at the Moueix time, but not very good, since the focus at Moueix was on the more renowned estates. In 2000, the Halley family took over the estate and invested heavily in the vineyard and cellar in order to raise the quality of the wines. In 2015, the Labrune family bought Château de la Dauphine and converted production to biodynamic cultivation.

Chateau la Dauphine is a large winery for the right bank of Bordeaux. With an area of 53 hectares, it has dimensions that are usually only found in the Médoc. The vineyard is laid out like an amphitheater and is one of the best in the AOC Fronsac. The Merlot plays the first fiddle here, plus 10% Cabernet Franc. The wine is stored in barriques for about twelve months, about 30% of which are renewed every year. Advisory oenologists come from Michel Rolland's company.

2016 was one of the greatest Bordeaux vintages of our time. Everything was just right here. The ratings for the 2016 Château de la Dauphine are correspondingly euphoric. James Suckling praises the dark berry fruit and the salty-mineral finish and is at 93/100. The magazine Falstaff gave the same rating, which also emphasized the dark berry fruit, as well as the charm and the integrated tannins. The Wine Cellar Insider and DECANTER are both at 92/100.

All of this underlines the leading position of la Dauphine in Fronsac and the wines also have a fair price level.
