1998 was a great vintage for Saint-Emilion wines. The ripe harvest of the Canon-La-Gaffeliere was developed with a whopping 90% new barrel content.
The magazine DECANTER awarded a high 94/100 points for the 1998 vintage in a tasting in 2019 and wrote: "Richer and more complete than the 1989, the 1998 is still young and fleshy - a totally gorgeous wine. The 19.5ha vineyard produced a yield of just 24hl/ha, and this was a powerful vintage at Canon-la-Gaffelière with great tannic structure that has gone the distance. It's still full of fruit and life."
