The Bodegas Olarra was founded in Rioja in 1973, so it is just celebrating its 50th anniversary. The winery is based near Logrono in the Rioja Alta subzone. The Cerro Anon Rioja Gran Reserva is the top product of Bodegas Olarra. According to old tradition, it is composed of the two growing regions Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, from which the best grapes flow into this wine, with the larger part coming from Rioja Alta, which is known for its fullness and power, the smaller part from the cooler Alavesa, which provides the freshness and elegance. 80% are Tempranillo grapes, plus 10% Mazuelo, and the remaining 10% are Garnacha and Graciano.
The Cerro Anon Gran Reserva is a complex and storable Rioja. The premium 2016 vintage has an intense and complex scent reminiscent of plums, cherries, dark berries, fresh tobacco and pencil (cedarwood). On the palate it makes a rich and substantial impression, here too the dark berries and cherries can be found in the very long and well-balanced finale. The 2016 Cerro Anon has reached its first drinking maturity and will last for at least 15 years.
