Monastrell is a grape variety that loves the heat. It is native to the Mediterranean coast from Provence (here as Mourvedre) to south-eastern Spain, the Levant. This inhospitable region, with its scorching summer heat and little rainfall, calls for a hardy grape variety that will take it all and even produce excellent results there.

Monastrell wines are dark to deep black, have power, substance and great richness. The grapes for Campos de Risca grow in vineyards in the south of the D.O. Jumilla, planted in low bush vines, the best form of training to defy the lack of water, heat and sunshine. The vines for the Campos de Risca are very old, between 40 and 80 years are the norm here. This red wine is matured in steel tanks. Cultivation has recently been certified organic.

The scent of Campos de Risca Monastrell/Syrah - the latter accounting for only five percent of the volume - shows the typical dark aromas of Monastrell, reminiscent of dried fruits, blackberries, figs and plums, and a hint of violets is also noticeable. It shows its full power on the palate, is intense, full-bodied and equipped with a healthy tannin structure, which represents the corset for the fruit.
