The Brunello di Montalcino is the most important wine in the house of Mastrojanni. Around 70,000 bottles are produced each year. The expansion takes place in large wooden barrels made of Allier oak, as is traditional for Brunello, and lasts 36 months. The wine then rests in the bottle for another half a year before it is sold. Barriques are not used here.
The 2018 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino is a generous Sangiovese wine. The color is not too dark due to the long barrel storage. The fruity notes in the fragrance are reminiscent of ripe plums, dark berries and cherries, along with herbal notes, tobacco leaves and a touch of balsamic. Its elegant tannins are dynamic on the palate, the body is full and juicy, the wine has great opulence, but also a lot of tension in the middle and a long finish with the best balance. It should be able to mature for at least two decades.
Monica Larner from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate rates the 2018 Brunello from Mastrojanni with excellent 93/100 points.
