The Brouilly Lieu-Dit (single vineyard) "La Chaize" is one of the Crus from Château de la Chaize. Due to its exceptional location, the probably most committed winery in Beaujolais is striving to have it classified as a 1er Cru and has submitted a corresponding application for a classification of the best locations in Beaujolais.
It should not be confused with the winery's standard Brouilly, which bears Brouilly Chateau de la Chaize on the label, without the single vineyard la Chaize and the addition "Monopole". The plot from which this wine comes is surrounded by walls, called "clos" in France. The vineyard is steep and, thanks to the ideal exposure to sunlight, the porphyry granite soil and the Gamay vines, which are around 60 years old, delivers a particularly good and complex wine, which is bottled separately at Chateau de Chaize.
90% of the strictly selected grapes are destemmed (separated from the vines) and 10% are pressed as whole bunches, which gives the wine a little extra structure. It is fermented without the addition of fermentation yeasts, the expansion takes place in 50 hl. wooden vats.
The 2020 vintage is particularly successful, the Brouilly Lieu-Dit La Chaize is balanced at a very high level. A Beaujolais Cru doesn't get much better. James Suckling is worth 95/100 points for this feat. Respect!
