The Hospices de Belleville have different locations in the Beaujolais. These have been maintained exclusively by Joseph Drouhin since 2014 and the wines are aged and bottled.
The Cru de Beaujolais Brouilly Hospieces de Belleville by Joseph Drouhin comes from the 4.5 hectare single vineyard Le Sigaud, at the foot of Mont Brouilly. The aim here is a Burgundian Beaujolais that can age well in the bottle. The harvest is carefully done by hand, fermentation is partly done with stems (whole bunch fermentation) to get power and structure into the wine. Depending on the vintage, the aging takes place for 10-12 months in 500 liter wooden barrels, the part of the wine fermented with Maceration Carbonique matures in steel tanks before the final cuvée is prepared.
2020 was one of the best Beaujolais vintages in recent times. The wines have fruit, power and extract, the perfectly ripe grapes ensured a wonderful aromatic clarity in the final wine. The Brouilly 2020 is dark red in color with violet reflections. There are notes of cherry and a hint of pepper in the scent. The full and fleshy body is balanced by the supple tannins. Extremely delicious! Drouhin recommends a storage period of 2-8 years.
