The Antinori winery la Braccesca is not only the source of first-class Syrah wines from this traditional house, but also supplies this exquisite Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a classic among the great Sangiovese based red wines of Tuscany. La Braccesca has belonged to Antinori since 1990 and today has an impressive 175 hectares of vineyards.
The Braccesca Vino Nobile consists of 90% Sangiovese Grosso grapes, also known from the Brunello di Montalcino, also called Prugnolo Gentile here in south-eastern Tuscany. The Vino Nobile is usually more charming than its famous neighbor and ready to be enjoyed earlier. It's not logical why it costs so much less than a Brunello, but we're just happy about it.
After fermentation, this Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is mainly matured in large traditional oak barrels for twelve months, a small part matures in barriques. It has a ruby red colour, the intense scent evokes memories of ripe red fruits, cocoa, cherries and a hint of vanilla. The taste is dense, fruity, but also beautifully structured, lingers on the palate and is well balanced. Skilful winemaking, as always with Antinori.
Unfortunately, we did not find any ratings for the magnificent 2019 vintage. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate is at 91/100 for the 2016 and 2017 vintages, Decanter magazine awards 92/100 to the 2020 Braccesca Vino Nobile.
