Campo al Mare is the Bolgheri winery of the Folonari family. The vines originally from Bordeaux thrive here and shape the so-called “Supertuscans”, red wines that were aged in barriques and consist primarily of Cabernet and Merlot grapes. The vineyards of Campo al Mare are located in the vicinity of the famous Tuscan red wine Sassicaia!
Campo al Mare has around 25 hectares of vineyards on which Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot grow. In the Campo al Mare Bolgheri Rosso, Merlot dominates the cuvée with around 80%. The aging takes place in 500l oak barrels, called tonneaux, which are becoming increasingly popular these days because the wood tone is more subtle than when using barriques. Folonari's Campo al Mare is a juicy and full-bodied Tuscan wine, but also has a good structure and freshness. You can drink it young, but it also develops positively over the years in the bottle.
