Blaufränkisch is the parade discipline of Paul Achs. The start of this grandiose collection is the Blaufränkisch Heideboden, grown in the municipality of Gols on Lake Neusiedl. This grape variety gets along very well with barriques, which is why Paul Achs ages it in used barrels for twelve months. This gives the wine the finishing touch and a noble spiciness, but does not cover the juicy fruit.
The Paul Achs Heideboden is an elegant wine with a certain grip, its aromas are reminiscent of dark berries and some cherries. The structure has parallels to Pinot Noir wines from Burgundy, you will find a nice freshness and a good bite in the long finish.
Like all Paul Achs wines, the Blaufränkisch Heideboden is also prepared according to biodynamic principles, is organically certified and produced without the use of substances of animal origin, i.e. vegan. Unfortunately, the Falstaff magazine did not taste any more recent vintages than 2019, but gave it an impressive 92/100.
