The Villabuena (Code V1BN4) Vinas Viejas Rioja Alavesa grows at an altitude of around 500 meters, it is a bit cooler here than in Laguardia, which is why the grapes for the Villabuena ripen later. The character of this local wine is very balanced, it has the ideal balance between freshness, finesse and concentration.
The vinification is identical to the other Villages Riojas of Bideona, the grapes, mainly Tempranillo grapes, are selected at the sorting table, the fermentation takes place in small stainless steel tanks in order to ferment as many plots individually as possible. The aging time in 300 liter French oak barrels is individually adjusted depending on the vintage character, with the unusually strong 2019 (top vintage!) Villabuena or V1BN4 it was eleven months. 50% was stored in wood, the other 50% came from steel tanks.
The Villabuena is Bideona's favorite wine, it always performs because it is in the best balance and has fine tannins. The designation Crianza or Reserva is deliberately omitted here, since the wine would have to be completely matured in barriques, which contradicts Bideona's terroir philosophy. Less wood equals more origin is the motto here. A new way, which the name of the winery also means.
