Bideona is a young winery that has set itself the task of producing outstanding qualities in the cooler Rioja Alavesa. The Las Parcelas comes from old Tempranillo vines from the approximately 300 plots with limestone soil that provide grapes for the Bideona wines.
Around a quarter of the Rioja tinto Las Parcelas is aged for six months in new French oak barrels, the rest comes from steel tanks. Therefore, the wine does not bear any of the usual Rioja names, since the entire amount of the wine would have had to be stored in barrels. But you don't want that at Bideona, because the focus should be on the fruit and the origin.
The 2020 Rioja Alavesa Las Parcelas smells of black cherries and ripe dark berries, with a hint of violets and cloves in the background. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with remarkable complexity and concentration, certainly an influence of the old vines. Despite all the density, a certain elegance can always be felt here, the ripe tannins give the wine a fine structure that encourages refilling.
