For a number of years, Bibi Graetz has been harvesting the grapes from the very old vines in Lamole, Vincigliata, Olmo and Siena separately and turning them into the "over the top wine" called Colore. Of these, only the best casks will make it to be selected for the Colore. Incidentally, the location in Olmo is new and, due to its altitude of approx. 420m, results in incredibly fresh and lively wines.
Up to eight harvests per site are made for the Colore, so in 2020 the harvest for this wine lasts from September 24th to October 15th. A huge effort that is worthwhile.
The Bibi Graetz Colore 2020 is a 100% Sangiovese. Despite the warm year, the altitude and the old vines have succeeded in giving this ultra-premium wine an enormous tension and elegance with all its strength. Bibi Graetz is convinced that the 2020 Colore is the best vintage ever.
This Sangiovese masterpiece smells of ripe raspberries, cherries and tobacco, herbal notes like mint and some cocoa. On the palate it is impressively precise and almost eternally long. Incidentally, it is remarkable that no new barrels are used here, and Bibi Graetz does not like vanilla oak notes in his wines. The Colore impressively shows that new wood is not needed to produce great wines.
The trade press is euphoric, Decanter Magazine has 98/100.
