A very special project by Telmo Rodriguez is in the Sierra del Gredos, a mountain range west of Madrid, where old Garnacha vines grew at extreme altitudes for years without anyone taking any interest in them. This area is becoming more and more exciting due to climate change, the coolness at high altitude gives the wines an undreamt-of elegance for southern origins.

The single vineyard Arrebatacapas is the most important slate vineyard in the area. It is at an unbelievable 1050m altitude. The vineyard has belonged to Telmo's Pegaso Barrancos de Pizarra winery since 1999, and since the 2015 vintage the wine has been bottled separately as the winery's premium product. The vines were planted here in 1953 and only give a very small yield. Despite the 2.1 hectare site, there are usually not even 1000 bottles of this wine per vintage. The wine is fermented with natural yeasts and matured in 600l barrels. A high-class and very individual wine.
