The fourteen-hectare Abtsberg is nominally the highest rated site in the Maximin Grünhaus winery. This is already documented by the name, these wines were once reserved for the abbot, while the high lords had to be content with the Herrenberg and the simple monks with the Bruderberg (there were certainly worse things). The Devonian slate soils of this steep slope store the heat and give the grapes an extra boost of ripeness. The Abtsberg is certainly one of the very best vineyards on the Ruwer.
The fruity Riesling Kabinett by Maximin Grünhaus is a classic in the range. It can be stored for a very long time and gains in aromatic complexity over time. Its reductive scent is enchanting, with aromas of ripe citrus fruits, apples and a hint of mint. It is well balanced on the palate, the mineral clarity and the fine acidity are perfect partners of the aromatic fruit sweetness. Despite its sweetness, the wine is so fresh and lively that it is great fun.
It has all its intensity and aromatic playfulness with only around eight percent alcohol. A unique style of the growing area, which is admired worldwide. That's why sweet top cabinets have also become very rare, unfortunately we only got a small amount of the Abtsberg cabinet 2022.
