2021 has turned out to be a classically structured and fresh Burgundy vintage with an amazingly high quality. The rather cool weather this year is reminiscent of the good vintages in the 1970s and 1980s when such weather conditions were common. However, the frost damage in April meant that the yield was very low. The perfect weather for harvesting ensured the high quality of the remaining berries.
The 2021 Clos des Cortons Faiveley also has outstanding freshness and brilliant clarity, the precision of the tannins is impressive. The old vines of the Clos des Cortons, some of which date back to the planting year 1932, give the wine a sublime complexity and aromatic depth worthy of a Grans Crus. The rather gently toasted barriques, half of which were new, provide a noble spiciness in the background.
The 2021 Corton Grand Cru Clos des Cortons Faiveley unfolds aromas of red and dark berries, vanilla and forest soil, and a delicate floral note reminiscent of violets can also be sniffed. Despite all the substance, the fragrance is very complex and playful. The freshness and precision of the vintage is evident on the palate, the wine is handy and complex, the ripe tannins are perfectly balanced with the body. A enchanting Corton with a very long lifespan.
