Moriz is the name of the Pinot Bianco (= Weißburgunder) from the Kellerei or Cantina Tramin, derived from Saint Mauritius , patron saint of the hamlet of Söll near Tramin. The grapes grow in the municipalities of Ora, Neumarkt and Tramin on calcareous clay soils with gravel, at an altitude of between 250 and 550 metres. The large temperature differences between day and night ensure intensive aroma development and the "cool", alpine character of this enchanting white wine.
The Moriz is mainly matured in steel tanks, 20% of the harvest is stored in large traditional wooden barrels. The Tramin winery does not use any biological acid degradation in order to keep the wine as fresh as possible. Nevertheless, the Moriz is a creamy white wine that goes well with many dishes. In addition to fish and white meat, light summer salads and appetizers are also available here. There are aromas reminiscent of pears and citrus fruits, and you can also guess a hint of butter. In terms of taste, the combination of freshness and creamy fullness, which continues into the long-lasting finale, is pleasing. An excellent Pinot Blanc that once again shows how at home this Pinot vine feels in South Tyrol.
