White wine is relatively rare in northern Spanish Rioja, only around 15% of the acreage is planted with white vines, of which mainly Viura. This grape variety also plays the leading role in this delicate Rioja Blanco by Altos R. Viura provides fruit and freshness, plus 40% Malvasia, which gives fullness and substance. The vines from which this wine comes are between 30 and 60 years old, which ensures a nice depth and gives the wine strength. The high altitude and the associated relative coolness gives the wine clarity and finesse. The last component is the wooden barrel, about a third of the wine was aged in used barriques, which provides a plus in nobility and structure. So everything is offered that a well-balanced wine needs.
We would also like to emphasize the excellent price-benefit ratio of the Altos R Rioja Blanco. There's a lot on offer for well under €10 a bottle! Aromas of white fruit such as pear and yellow fruit such as peach and apricot can be found here, along with a delicate floral note. On the palate it is wonderfully balanced with a medium weight, has freshness, body and a mature acidity. Everything fits here!
This delicious white Rioja goes well with poultry, vegetables, fish and seafood. Our tip!
