Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard is a top producer in Burgundy, more precisely on the Côte de Beaune. The bulk of the production is white wine from Chassagne-Montrachet. The winery has an impressive portfolio of 22 vineyards, including plots in the very best Chardonnay vineyards in the world. Since everything is only spread over 12 hectares, the quantities of the individual wines are often very small. The quantities allocated to us almost never last until the next harvest, which means that the wines are only available for a short time. We ask for your understanding.
This Chassagne-Montrachet Village comes from six plots with clay-limestone soils in this famous wine commune. With around 10,000 bottles per vintage, it is the most important wine and thus the flagship of the Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard. However, due to global demand, the quantity never lasts until the next harvest.
The Chassagne-Montrachet 2020 was aged in barriques for 12 months, about 20% of the barrels were new. This enchanting Chardonnay has an animating bouquet of vanilla, white flowers, apricots and citrus fruits (tangerine?). On the palate it shows the freshness and clarity of the vintage, is best balanced and has a lot of noblesse and good pressure in the long finish. A typical example of the finesse and precision that characterize Céline Fontaine's wines.
2020 has created classically structured burgundies that will be a lot of fun for a long time. However, due to the low harvest and still increasing demand, they will soon be gone from the market. Don't delay stocking up too much.
