In the portfolio of Wente is also a Riesling, a grape that is not immediately associated with California. Around 1600 hectares are planted with Riesling in California, which is not a little, but relatively insignificant compared to the 38,000 hectares of Chardonnay. In the northern part of the wine region, where Wente owns their vineyards, the Riesling thrives splendidly, stylistically it is fuller, as one knows that of German Rieslings and as the 2017er, bottled with nearly no residual sugar. Exotic, tropical notes characterize the Wente Riverbank Riesling, jasmine, tangerines, flowers and a little bit of pears. It is the freshest wine in the Wente portfolio, the summer wine of the winery.
