2020 is another outstanding vintage in Beaujolais, stylistically comparable to the racy, elegant 2017 vintage. The wines have lots of fruit, ripe tannins and an invigorating freshness.
The 2020 Régnié Grain & Granite by Charly Thevenet has the perfect balance between body and tannin, plus an incredibly delicate fruit. It is perfectly balanced at a high level, thanks to its lively play between fruit, acidity and structure, precisely this unique bite of the Gamay grape variety, without requiring a lot of tannins. It is a treat when young and will also mature very well in the bottle, as the recently tasted genius 2015 impressively showed, which still has many years ahead of it.
Charly Thevenet's Grain & Granite grows in a three-hectare parcel, whose vines were planted in the years 1932 and 1964 and are biodynamically cultivated. The wine is aged in used burgundy barrels, sulfur is only added to a minimum level. Charly Thevenet always harvests late and selects rigorously, only the very best grapes are used for his Régnié. The wine is neither refined nor filtered.
